twines & patterns. 2010. with Melina Cichon

The Installation „Twines & Patterns“ surveys fabrics and their patterns in terms of their colonial interrelations and cultural constructions. We focus on printed cotton textiles and the colorant Indigo.

The cloth is considered as a metaphoric texture of power structures, where different factors are interwoven. The story of textiles is paradigmatic for the development of a capitalistic system in its historical derivation.

The cloth and their patterns are also of special relevance for national, cultural or politcal collectives.

We searched for anecdotic stories, facts and informations which tell about hegemonial relations and racist implemantations.

The fabric, the cloth is both an independent Medium and a field of projection.
